We hope you have enjoyed your time in the section you are now leaving, and are looking forward to many new exciting adventures in the next section up. Some important information about moving up is included below.
How does the moving up process take place, and when do I move up?
Moving up takes place at the start of the term following the relevant birthday of the young person (8 to move from Beavers to Cubs, 10 to move from Cubs to Scouts and 14 to move from Scouts to Explorers). You don't need to do anything - the process takes place automatically over the school holidays. Hopefully you have been directed to read this page as part of your moving up e-mail, which means the process is now in full swing! Your new section leader will contact you, along with all the other parents of current members of the section, at the start of the term with details of the plan and programme for the term.
Where can I find out more about the section I am moving up to?
Have a look at our parents' guides to each of our three sections which can be found here.
Uniform and transferring badges
Information about the uniform for each section can be found here. There is a grace period of three weeks before you will need to start attending your new section in that section's uniform - until then you are welcome to wear the uniform of your old section. You should continue to wear your red and black Thorner and Scarcroft necker to your new sections, and the badges below will need to be transferred to your new uniform:
World Membership Badge
Joining in badges (the number on these varies depending on how long you have been a member)
District and County badge
Group name tape |
Your direct debits on Online Scout Manager
The direct debits that you set up on Online Scout Manager to make payments for subscriptions and camps or events are specific to the section your child is in. When we move your child from one section to the next one up, this will automatically cancel your direct debits. Thus, when the first payments are requested in your child's new section, the system will ask you to set up a new direct debit scheme as required.
The parent rota
Each of our sections runs an active parent rota to ensure that we have sufficient adults present to run our activities safely. Your child's new section leader will contact you with details about this when they publish the programme. More information about the parent rota system can be found here.
